Additional Information

Description

People take Vitamin A to support healthy vision, skin, and maintain a healthy immune system.**

The term Vitamin A actually refers to a broad group of important compounds. As with most vitamins, Vitamin A cannot be made directly by the body – it can be obtained only through food and supplements. There are two main forms of Vitamin A which are referred to as preformed retinoids and pro-vitamin carotenoids. Preformed retinoids come to us from animals. These retinoids are called preformed because we take them in “ready to go” - we don’t have to manufacture the Vitamin A ourselves. Pro-vitamin carotenoids come to us from plants – although plants do not provide Vitamin A directly. Instead, they contain pro-vitamin A carotenoids which are then transformed into Vitamin A.

    FAQS

Q: What does Vitamin A do in the body?
A: Vitamin A has two different types - preformed Vitamin A and provitamin A (also known as Beta-Carotene). Preformed Vitamin A is found in meat and dairy while provitamin A comes from fruits and vegetables. Intaking provitamin A helps the body convert it to Vitamin A in the body, so essentially they both work in the same way just coming from different food sources. Some people choose to supplement with Vitamin A to support normal vision, the immune system, and healthy skin although Vitamin A supports many organ functions in the body as well.

Q: Does Vitamin A help skin?
A: Vitamin A taken internally or applied topically (usually in the form of Retinol) supports skin health by encouraging healthy skin cell turnover, or the regeneration of skin cells. This is why Vitamin A is a favorite supplement for people who are trying to improve the appearance of skin and also for people who are generally interested in anti-aging. What you can’t see that Vitamin A does is maintain the integrity and function of all surface tissues - this is the “skin” on the inside of your body that makes up the lining of the inner ear, the eye, the gut, the bladder and so on. Vitamin A is a good choice to help support and maintain the health of all your epithelial cells!

Q: Does Vitamin A: lighten skin? Is it good for scars? Is it good for wrinkles?
A: Yes to all of the above! Vitamin A can aid the appearance of skin because of its cell turnover properties. The removal of dead skin cells and an increase of healthy skin cells can do much to brighten complexion and reduce the appearance of scars and wrinkles. You can benefit from Vitamin A by taking it internally with a pill supplement of 10,000IU and also apply it topically with our best selling retinol cream.
